Food Lion 6/15-6/21

Today was a wonderful day. The weather was amazing. So good in fact that me and the babies had to get out of the house. And being as how we live just a few minutes (walking) from a Food Lion, I thought that it might be an interesting place to go. I'm sorry that I'm not comfortable or crazy enough to let Michael walk around a store while I am alone and wearing Meghan. Otherwise, it was great. While I was there I had the opportunity to write down a few good deals for this week. I was very impressed. Even though it seems like Food Lion does not double coupons, and the remainder of their coupon policy kind of sucks (it can be found here ), I think it is still worth my time to consider them for my grocery shopping trip planning. Maybe you will too.

Here is the list of sales/(in my opinion) good deals for the week of 6/15/11-6/21/11 for Lynchburg VA and surrounding areas:
(I did not bother matching up coupons with sales because my coupon binder is slightly less than organized, sorry.)

Sparkle paper towels (reg. single roll)-10/$10
Sparkle (6 big rolls)- $5.99
Brawny (single roll)- 10/$10
Raspberries- 2/$4
Strawberries 1lb box- 2/$4
Grapes(red, seedless)- $0.99/lb
Eggplant- 1.69/lb
Folgers (select varieties)-$7.99
Willy Wonka movie theater box candy- 5/$5
JIF Simply (27.3oz* jar)- $2.97
Betty Crocker cake mix- 4/$5
Margaret Holmes canned veggies and beans- 10/$10
Food Lion brand taco sauce- $1.61
Ramen- 5/$1
Coke products(2 liters)- $0.99
Hershey's chocolate/strawberry sauce- $1.79
Whole roasting chicken- $0.94/lb
McCormick Garam Masala- $1.91
Maple Syrup(8.5oz)- $3.99
Basic 4 cereal- $2.24
Shoulder blade Chops- $2.19/lb
Mr. Clean floor cleaner(40oz bottle)- $2.99
Tyson 100% chicken nuggets/tenders- $5.99
Food Lion brand texas toast- $1.79
PictSweet steamable veggies- 5/$5
Celentano cheese filled ravioli (30oz bag)- $3.99
Landers Bagels- 4/$5
International Delight coffee creamer (32oz, excluding italian sweet cream)- 2/$5

I was quite shocked that some of the prices were better than what I find at Kroger. For example the chicken nuggets are typically $6.99. Normally I wouldn't care about the brand because I am more loyal to the idea of saving money. And trust me Banquet chicken nuggets are substantially cheaper ($4.99 compared to Tyson's $6.99, at Kroger). But, the only reason I buy the chicken nuggets is to have a meat that Michael will eat, and he won't eat the Banquet nuggets which are definitely of lesser quality). For a while there I was concerned that he was going to be a vegetarian. Its not that I have any objections to vegetarians, I just can't afford that kind of diet right now. I know that $1 won't make much of a difference. But at this point I feel like a failure if I'm not getting the best deals.

Every single dollar makes a difference, but only if your family will eat it. Luckily, I have got a houseful of totally not picky eaters so I can remain loyal to money saving and not brands.

It's funny how most of those prices are the same as we have around here in rural Illinois :) even though we don't have a food lion.

I have just recently started making a price list of all the different stores in our area so I really know when something is on sale or I'm getting the best price. It takes some time and some dedication, but we have really got to start saving money.

Welcome to voiceBoks! I look forward to reading more of your blog - looks like we have a lot of the same interests!

Don't worry I had an eight month old reaching above her head the whole time I was writing, trying to get my little notebook and pen. By the way, thanks for the comments.

Hey I have three kids and I sometimes feel overwhelmed with shopping with all three. Even though I give the pep talk in the car they still ask for candy and toys(smile). Welcome to Voiceboks and hope that you enjoy our community.
